liù yī sǎn is used for patterns with

summerheat and dampness, lin syndrome, or damp-heat skin problems.

symptoms indicating the use of liù yī sǎn

fever, sweating, thirst, irritablity, fidgeting, nausea, vomiting, urinary difficulty, painful urination, scanty dark urine, dysuria, pain from urinary stones.

western interpretation of liù yī sǎn

upper respiratory tract infection (urti) or urinary tract infection (uti).

explanation of the mechanism

summerheat which is a yang pathogenic influence, easily disturbs the heart (yin organ), causing fever and irritability. it also causes sweating and easily injures the fluids, leading to thirst. urinary difficulty arises from a combination of summerheat injuring the qi, and dampness obstructing the interior; together these processes interrupt the transformation of bladder qi. the tongue signs reflect relatively mild damp-summerheat, as does the soggy (damp) and rapid (summerheat) pulse.
