guì zhī fú líng wán is used for patterns with

fetal malnourishment due to blood stasis in the uterus, tender masses in the lower abdomen due to phlegm and blood stagnation, post abortion blood stasis.

symptoms indicating the use of guì zhī fú líng wán

mild, persistent uterine bleeding of purple and black blood during pregnancy, abdominal pain that is worse with pressure, abdominal spasms and tension, immobile masses in the lower abdomen with pain and tenderness, amenorrhea with distention and pain, dysmenorrhea, headache, sinus congestion, constipation, excess weight in the pelvis, lower back ache, irregular menstruation, nervousness, fatigue, fetal instability, skin eruptions, scanty menstrual flow, scaly, dry skin, retention of lochia, shoulder stiffness, vertigo, cold low body and feet, flushed face, protruding abdomen.

western interpretation of guì zhī fú líng wán

primary dysmenorrhea, leiomyoma (uterine fibroids), cervical erosion, ovarian cysts, chronic salpingitis, chronic pelvic inflammatory disease, endometriosis, lochioschesis, miscarriage with retained fetus, lipoma, prostatitis, hydrocele, infertility.

explanation of the mechanism

this is blood stasis in the womb. the first set of signs and symptoms (from the source text) represents a form of restless fetus disorder. the stasis of blood in the womb disturbs the fetus by obstructing the flow of blood and thereby depriving the fetus of nourishment.

when the flow of blood is obstructed in its normal pathways, it may spill out causing mild, persistent uterine bleeding of purple or dark blood. immobile masses in the lower abdomen with pain and tenderness, abdominal spasms and tension, amenorrhea with abdominal distention and pain, dysmenorrhea, and post partum retention of the lochia are typical symptoms of blood stasis accumulating in the womb. the choppy pulse likewise reflects the stasis of blood.
